Trailblazing Sliver

Soror Mayme Hodges, recognized by the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce

“The Small but Mighty Chapter of Nu Beta Omega congratulates Soror Mayme Hodges and thanks her for her tireless service and lifelong commitment to service in the Clearwater, FL Community”

Soror Mayme Hodges, recognized by the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce as “Ms. Clearwater” in 1996, was honored recently as the ‘Trailblazer’ her beloved Clearwater Chapter, Nu Beta Omega (NBO), knows her to be.

The 3rd Annual Women’s History Month Exhibit of Trailblazing Women was presented by the Pinellas Historical Society on March 4, 2022. Flanked by family, including Legacy Soror, Daughter, LaTanya Raffington, and NBO Sorors, they and previous colleagues celebrated Soror Mayme as a Clearwater Contributor yesterday, today and always.

Soror Mayme’s stellar accomplishments as Ms. Clearwater placed her on the map as the First Black Woman in its thirty-eight (38) year history. She was the First Black Woman on Clearwater City’s Council in 1994. That accomplishment echoed her being the third Black Council Member to the city. As a lifelong NAACP Member and affiliate of over forty-one (41) different Civic-Organizations in Pinellas County, focusing in Clearwater, this devoted, now retired, School Teacher and Community Activist echoes the AKA Vision Fair when she stated in an interview, “It is better to serve than to be served.”

The Small but Mighty Chapter of Nu Beta Omega congratulates Soror Mayme Hodges and thanks her for her tireless service and lifelong commitment to service in the Clearwater, FL Community. Congratulations!!!
